 Pikes Peak
Rising to 14,110 feet, Pikes Peak is one of the most distinctive peaks in Colorado's Front Range. The summit provides scenic views of the Rampart Range, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Continental Divide, Colorado Springs, Denver, and the eastern Colorado prairies. The view from Pikes Peak inspired Katharine Lee Bates' poem "America the Beautiful" in 1893. The summit can be reached via the Pikes Peak Highway, the Cog Railway, or the 13-mile Barr National Recreation Trail. |

Garden of the Gods
This 1,364-acre Registered National Natural Landmark features magnificent natural rock formations. It is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and admission is free. The Visitor Center, located at the east entrance to Garden of the Gods Park, is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. It is a natural history museum with exhibits, guided tours, nature talks, and a multimedia theatrical presentation that brings to life the natural wonder of the Garden of the Gods.

North Cheyenne Canyon and Palmer Park
Both North Cheyenne Canyon and Palmer Park are rugged scenic areas, offering a setting of awe-inspiring scenery, picnicking, hiking and multi-use trails. Those keen on mountain biking and trail running will find some of the most challenging and enjoyable trails here. Some trails are also open to horseback riders and motorcyclists. |

El Paso County Parks
The El Paso County Park Department manages regional parks and trails with outstanding natural qualities and geologic features. Some of the parks are developed with recreational amenities, educational nature displays, and trails, with most of the land as natural open space supporting a wide variety of wildlife. The department manages approximately 2,800 acres in five regional parks, one recreation area, three trails and trailheads, and two neighborhood parks.

National & State Parks
Colorado's most popular tourist destination is Rocky Mountain National Park, three hours north of Colorado Springs. The nearest national monument is Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument, located just off Highway 24, an hour west of Colorado Springs. The area offers hiking trails, picnic areas, nature and fossil displays and a visitors center. Some of the state's most magnificent scenery, geological features and fossils can be enjoyed visiting the 10 national parks and monuments in Colorado.

The department maintains more than 100 city parks and offers recreation programs for all ages. Programs include spring soccer, summer T-ball, baseball, softball, and sports camps. In fall, football, soccer, and baseball are scheduled. Hiking, backpacking, mountain climbing, and bicycle touring trips to the Pikes Peak area, including Pike National Forest, are offered as well.
